Minority leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has visited former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, after a surprising raid on his residence by National Security operatives.
The operation, reportedly led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, has raised significant concern and drawn widespread condemnation.
On the morning of Wednesday, March 19, a group of heavily armed men, suspected to be National Security operatives, stormed Dr. Addison’s private residence in Roman Ridge around 5 a.m., while he was at home.
Sources from Joy News indicated that approximately 15 soldiers, arriving in three separate vehicles and armed with rifles, forcibly entered the property.
The operatives immediately disabled the CCTV system before demanding that Dr. Addison lead them to alleged “vaults” hidden within his house. However, Dr. Addison firmly denied the existence of any such vaults or hidden caches of money.
Despite his denial, the operatives proceeded to ransack the residence, leaving it in disarray.
When the search yielded no results, they reportedly called in National Security drivers to remove four of Dr. Addison’s vehicles, leaving only two behind. Before leaving, the operatives also confiscated the CCTV monitor and control unit.
Later that evening, the family was contacted and instructed to retrieve the seized vehicles, which were parked opposite Jokers Club in Labadi. Dr. Addison and his family are said to be deeply shaken by the incident.
This raid comes just a month after a similar operation at the home of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta in Accra.
On February 11, 2025, a group of 12 individuals, including nine military personnel, plainclothes officers, and two other operatives, allegedly entered Mr. Ofori-Atta’s residence without a warrant or prior notice.
At the time, Mr. Ofori-Atta was out of the country for medical treatment. He has since stated that the incident caused significant distress to his household staff and damaged his reputation.
