The traditional leadership of Kasoa, led by the Boundary Chief of the Awutu Traditional Area, Nai Atopi Kwashie Abbey VII, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to immediately remove the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Awutu Senya East, Seth Banini, citing gross incompetence and destabilizing interference in local chieftaincy affairs.
The custodians of the land declared that while they remain fully supportive of President Mahama’s administration, the continued tenure of the MCE poses a severe threat to local governance and public order.
Addressing a massive crowd at the Kasoa Market Overhead during the celebration of the Kasoa Ofaakor Homowo festival, Nai Atopi Kwashie Abbey VII, who also serves as the Chief of Kwashie Abbey and Custodian Caretaker of Kasoa and its environs, issued a stern warning over the MCE’s conduct.
“We have no issues with President John Dramani Mahama’s government,” Nai Atopi Kwashie Abbey VII explicitly stated. “Our issue is that Awutu Senya East MCE, Seth Banini, is incompetent. As an MCE, you must not meddle in chieftaincy issues and destroy the image of the government.”
The traditional leaders expressed deep concern that the MCE’s unauthorized involvement in chieftaincy matters is creating unnecessary tension within the municipality and dragging the reputation of the central government into dispute.
According to the custodians, Municipal Chief Executives are appointed to drive development and maintain municipal order, not to interfere in traditional leadership structures. They warned that if President Mahama does not intervene swiftly to replace Mr. Banini, the MCE’s actions could alienate the public and undermine the administration’s progress in the Awutu Senya East Municipality.
The public declaration made at the central market area has intensified local pressure on the presidency, with community members and traditional authorities united in their demand for new municipal leadership.
