The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has confirmed that the 2025 Road World Championships will still be held in Rwanda, despite the ongoing conflict in neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo). Rwanda is set to make history as the first African nation to host the event, scheduled to take place from September 21-28 .
The UCI has assured that Rwanda remains safe for tourism and business, as the fighting is confined to DR Congo. The organization is closely monitoring developments and their potential impact on the championships in Kigali.
UCI President David Lappartient has stated that “there is no plan B” for the event, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to hosting the championships in Rwanda.
