The Ministry of the Interior has declared a curfew for Walewale and its surrounding areas in the North East Region due to rising security threats.
This decision comes in response to recommendations from the North East Regional Security Council (NERSEC).
The curfew, established through an Executive Instrument, will be in effect daily from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, starting Saturday, February 15, 2025.
The official announcement was made in a statement signed by the Minister of the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak.
Authorities have called on community leaders, elders, and youth to remain calm and pursue peaceful resolutions to any conflicts. The government has reiterated its commitment to maintaining order and ensuring the safety of residents.
Furthermore, the Ministry has imposed a complete ban on the possession of firearms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons in Walewale and its neighboring areas.
The statement cautioned that individuals found in possession of such items will face arrest and prosecution.
Reaffirming its dedication to regional peace and security, the government has urged all stakeholders to collaborate in preventing further unrest.
Residents are strongly encouraged to adhere to the curfew and security measures to aid in restoring stability in the area.
