Rebels currently positioned in the city of Bukavu, located in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), have announced their intention to persist with military operations, according to a report by Reuters. Corneille Nangaa, the leader of the Congo River Alliance (AFC), which includes the Rwanda-backed M23 rebel group, stated that they have successfully captured several key cities since late January and are now setting their sights on advancing towards the capital, Kinshasa.
The rebel movements in Bukavu coincide with President Felix Tshisekedi’s address at the Munich Security Conference in Germany, where he condemned what he described as the “expansionist ambitions” of Rwandan President Paul Kagame. Tshisekedi called on the international community to “blacklist” Kagame in response to the ongoing conflict and instability in the region
