The newly installed Paramount Queenmother of Ngleshie Alata in James Town, Accra, Naa Affipong IV (Mrs. Alberta Addo), has announced that promoting education for girls will be the central focus of her reign. She said educating girls is vital for community transformation and for empowering coming generations, and urged parents and guardians to make their daughters’ schooling a priority because its benefits extend beyond the individual.
Naa Affipong IV pledged to devote her leadership to advancing both academic and vocational opportunities for girls, arguing that such support can curb problems like teenage pregnancy and equip young women to become responsible, influential leaders. She stressed the need to give girls equal chances and to build environments that foster their confidence and development.
She called on parents to be deliberate about their daughters’ futures, noting that an educated girl can lift her family out of poverty and help change her community. She also appealed to chiefs, elders and community leaders to work together on programs that back youth—especially girls—through education, mentorship and entrepreneurship.
In addition to championing girl-child education, the Queenmother highlighted the importance of peace, unity and strong moral values among young people. She urged collaboration between traditional authorities and government bodies to tackle wider community problems, including unemployment, poor infrastructure and social vices.
Her enstoolment was celebrated with lively cultural displays and attended by chiefs, queenmothers, elders and local residents. During the rites she swore an oath of allegiance to the elders of Adjumako Durampong and vowed to serve her people with dedication.
