Frank Antwi’s call for unity during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) New York Chapter’s 33rd anniversary celebrations has underscored a critical effort to rally the party around a shared purpose as it looks toward the 2028 elections, amid ongoing internal reforms and leadership contests.
The event, themed “33 Years of Devoted Service, Patriotism, and Commitment: Reigniting the Base, Rebuilding With Our Core Values in Unity,” highlighted the urgency of consolidating party cohesion. Chairman Antwi noted that the NPP has reached a stage where unity and purpose have gone separate ways, stressing the need to align all its energies to prosecute a shared purpose. He urged members to avoid negativity, injustice, internal bickering, and slander, and instead return to the party’s roots of discipline and commitment.
Antwi emphasized that unity is the foundation of strength and essential for mounting an effective campaign against political opponents.
Meanwhile, the NPP has introduced significant reforms, including abolishing the special delegates system for selecting its flagbearer. By allowing all card-carrying members to vote, the party seeks to democratize its internal processes, curb elite manipulation, and reduce vote-buying.
Yet political analysts caution that reforms alone will not suffice. Persistent finger-pointing and factionalism could weaken the party and give the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) a decisive advantage in 2028. The New York Chapter’s call therefore serves as a reminder that structural change must be matched by a mindset shift within both leadership and grassroots membership.
As Antwi noted, the road to the 2028 elections will test whether the NPP can channel its energies into a unified campaign or remain too fractured to prevail.
