Desmond Ofei, the head coach of the Black Satellites, has emphasized that his team is dedicated to achieving qualification for the U-20 World Cup set to take place later this year in Qatar.
Ofei’s comments came after his squad celebrated their inaugural victory against Senegal on Monday night during the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Egypt. Emmanuel Mensah netted the sole goal of the match in the first half, marking Ghana’s first triumph in the competition.
While the performance may not have been entirely convincing, Ofei expressed his satisfaction with the outcome. “Our main goal is to qualify for the World Cup. That’s the focus. Each match and positive result takes us a step closer,” he stated following the match.
The coach also commended his players for their determination in overcoming Senegal. “Senegal came at us with a very direct and physical approach. It wasn’t easy, but our players showed great tactical discipline and fighting spirit throughout the game,” he noted.
Looking ahead, Ghana is set to face the Central African Republic in their final Group C match on Thursday in Ismailia.
