BAD OR GREAT ANCESTOR ONE DAY

One day, you too will become an ancestor.

When your name is spoken by future generations, will it be remembered with gratitude or with pain? Will they thank God for the foundation you laid, or will they suffer because of the consequences of the choices you made?

“The good we do, we do unto ourselves.”

This is a profound truth because our lives do not end with us. Every good deed, every sacrifice, every act of kindness, and every principled decision can become a blessing to generations yet unborn. Likewise, selfishness, injustice, hatred, dishonesty, and destructive choices can become burdens our descendants are forced to carry.

The characters and saints we study in the Holy Books are remembered because of the choices they made. Their decisions became their legacy, and their legacy became part of the story of generations.

Jesus Christ stands as the greatest example. He willingly accepted the responsibility of bearing the consequences of humanity’s rebellion and sin, revealing the seriousness of sin and its devastating effect on the relationship between God and humanity. His choice of obedience, sacrifice, love, and redemption is why generations remember Him not merely for what He taught, but for what He chose to do for others.

The same principle applies to every one of us. Our choices become our testimonies; our actions become our legacy; and eventually, our legacy becomes the story others tell about us.

Our daily decisions even those that appear small and insignificant matter more than we realise. They are the bricks with which the future is built. What we choose today may shape the lives, opportunities, character, faith, and destiny of people we may never meet.

We are therefore called to build, not destroy; to heal, not wound; to plant, not uproot; and to leave blessings, not burdens.

Our choices carry consequences beyond our lifetime. They can influence our families, communities, institutions, nations, and generations yet unborn. We may not live long enough to witness the full harvest of what we plant today, but those who come after us may live in its consequences.

So let us pause and ask ourselves:

When future generations remember my name, will they be grateful that I lived, or will they wish I had chosen differently?

Will my life point them toward faith, courage, love, justice, compassion, and good works? Or will they spend their lives repairing the damage I left behind?

One day, we will all become ancestors.

The question is not whether we will leave a legacy. The question is what kind of legacy we will leave and what kind of ancestor we will become.

May our lives become foundations upon which others can safely build. May our sacrifices become blessings for those who follow us. May our names be remembered not because we accumulated power or possessions, but because we used our lives to serve God, humanity, and generations yet unborn.

Live with purpose.
Walk in integrity.
Love one another.
Do good whenever you have the opportunity.
Build something that will outlive you.

Because one day, you too will become an ancestor.

May those who come after us remember our names with gratitude, not regret; with thanksgiving, not pain; and may our lives point them toward God rather than away from Him.
