The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has invited the Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, for questioning following his public claim that he rejected a GH¢4 million bribe allegedly offered to halt the rollout of the new Digitalised Vehicle Registration Plate (DP) policy.
Mr. Kotey, in a recent media interview, disclosed that certain powerful individuals attempted to influence him to abandon the initiative, which aims to curb vehicle-related fraud and enhance road safety across the country.
In a statement, the OSP confirmed that it is seeking additional information from the DVLA CEO to verify the allegation and to identify the persons purportedly involved in the bribery attempt.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, the OSP has also launched an investigation into a sitting member of the Council of State over alleged corruption and corruption-related offences connected to gold trading.
Sources close to the OSP indicate that the probe centres on claims that the Council member may have used his position to influence the granting of a gold licence to a company in which he allegedly holds undisclosed business interests.
