Ghana News Agency in Turmoil: GM Albert Kofi Owusu Accused of Mismanagement

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) is embroiled in controversy, with allegations of procurement breaches, forgery of staff signatures, and mismanagement of resources under the leadership of General Manager Albert Kofi Owusu. Owusu, appointed by President Akufo-Addo, has been accused of creating a toxic work environment, particularly with the agency’s accountants.

Accountant General Warns of Collaboration Issues

The Controller and Accountant General has issued a warning that if Owusu cannot work collaboratively with the current accountant, Jonathan Eshun, no accountant will be seconded to the agency during his tenure. This warning comes after three previous accountants from the Controller and Accountant General’s Department were unable to work with Owusu.

Allegations of Unfair Treatment and Financial Irregularities

There are also allegations that Owusu has refused to pay transferred staff members whom he perceives to be affiliated with the NDC their owed packages. Furthermore, contractors have been paid for work that was never completed, raising concerns about financial management within the agency.

Call for Forensic Audit

Senior staff at GNA are calling for a forensic audit to investigate the alleged mismanagement and financial irregularities. The situation has sparked concerns about the agency’s governance and the impact on its operations.

The development has raised questions about Owusu’s leadership and the future of the Ghana News Agency. Will the agency take steps to address these allegations, or will the situation continue to escalate?
