The Government of Ghana has launched a new visa initiative that promises to process applications within a maximum of five working days, a significant reduction from the previous timeframe of four to six weeks.
In a recent announcement, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, stated that the policy is effective immediately and aims to position Ghana as a leading hub for tourism, business, and investment across Africa.
“We have implemented robust measures at our diplomatic missions to significantly reduce the time taken for visa processing,” the Ministry declared in a post on Facebook. “This new visa policy takes immediate effect.”
Minister Ablakwa further explained that systems have already been established at Ghana’s diplomatic missions around the globe to facilitate the smooth and efficient rollout of this expedited process.
This initiative follows President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment made on January 7, 2025, that “Ghana is open for business.” The Foreign Ministry highlighted that this new policy embodies that vision by dismantling long-standing bureaucratic obstacles that have hindered travellers and investors.
“As Foreign Minister, I am dedicated to making Ghana the preferred destination for investors and tourists by enhancing the country’s competitiveness and reducing red tape,” Mr. Ablakwa remarked.
However, the Ministry also clarified that the new processing timeline does not equate to automatic approval. “A decision will be made within five working days regarding an applicant’s eligibility for a Ghanaian visa,” the statement noted.
This expedited visa policy is anticipated to invigorate tourism, attract foreign direct investment, and foster deeper connections with the Ghanaian diaspora.
“Ghana is indeed open for business. Come and experience the Black Star hospitality,” the Minister concluded.
