The Volta Regional Minister, Mr. James Gunu, has announced the commencement of a strategic industrial park project in the region, aimed at accelerating socio-economic development and supporting the government’s 24-hour economy initiative.
Speaking during an inspection of the 2,700-acre project site at Adaklu-Waya, Mr. Gunu emphasised the transformative potential of the industrial park. He called on all stakeholders to collaborate closely with the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) to ensure the successful implementation of the project and bring sustainable development to the region.
“The industrial park is a key component of the 24-hour economy policy. It is designed to generate employment, especially for our vibrant but unemployed youth, and stimulate industrial growth across the region,” Mr. Gunu stated. He commended the chiefs of Adaklu for their cooperation in making land available and pledged to maintain strong ties with traditional authorities to fast-track development efforts.
Highlighting the broader vision, Mr. Gunu noted that the government is committed to addressing developmental challenges in the Volta Region through pragmatic industrialisation policies and long-term investment strategies.
The Adaklu District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Jerry Ameko, also outlined the scope of the project. He revealed that the park would host agro-processing factories, including cassava and rice processing facilities, which are expected to enhance the profitability and appeal of agriculture.
“This industrial park presents a great opportunity for our youth. Farming is no longer just a subsistence activity — it’s a viable business model,” Mr. Ameko said. He urged young people to embrace agriculture as a path to self-employment and wealth creation.
Mr. Ameko further encouraged the youth to stay away from social vices and focus on productive ventures, noting that the region’s future depended on their choices and commitment.
He assured that the Adaklu District Assembly has created a favourable environment for both local and international investors, inviting them to explore opportunities in agriculture and industrialisation.
In addition, the DCE advised landowners in the area to register their lands and collaborate with the Assembly to prevent encroachment and legal disputes, which often hinder development.
“It is essential for the people of Adaklu to remain united, respect diverse opinions, and prioritise peace as a foundation for sustainable growth,” Mr. Ameko he stated.
