NPP to deliver ‘True State of the Nation’ address, March 4.

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, is set to deliver what they are calling the “True State of the Nation Address” in response to President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation Address (SONA), delivered on February 27, 2025.

The NPP claims that President Mahama’s speech failed to address critical national issues and misrepresented the current state of the country.

In a statement issued on February 28, the NPP expressed strong dissatisfaction with the President’s address, arguing that it lacked a thorough and accurate evaluation of Ghana’s progress since Mahama assumed office on January 7, 2025.

The party pointed out several pressing issues that were conspicuously absent from the President’s speech, including the ongoing energy crisis, escalating security challenges, the rise of illegal mining activities, and the growing unemployment crisis that continues to affect the nation.

The NPP also criticized the speech for what they described as a lack of transparency and accountability in addressing the real challenges facing Ghanaians.

The party emphasised that these issues were vital to understanding the nation’s true condition and required urgent attention.

As a direct response, the NPP, led by its parliamentary leadership under Alexander Afenyo-Markin, will present the “True State of the Nation Address” to offer Ghanaians a fact-based and objective assessment of the nation’s current situation.

The address aims to provide a clear and honest overview of the challenges Ghana is facing, highlighting areas where the current government may have failed to adequately respond.

The NPP’s initiative underscores their commitment to holding the government accountable and ensuring that the public receives a transparent and accurate picture of the nation’s condition. In their statement, they affirmed their intention to not only critique but also offer practical solutions to the issues plaguing the country, aiming to foster informed debate and constructive dialogue on Ghana’s future trajectory.
