Mahama has acknowledged that the country’s economy is in crisis, with Ghanaians enduring unprecedented suffering.
However, he expressed optimism that the current administration has put in place the right strategies to confront these challenges and set the nation back on track.
Delivering the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday, the President emphasized that he was elected to solve the country’s problems and, as such, would not make excuses.”I will fix the economic crisis confronting the country and reset it on the path of growth and prosperity,” he stated.
“We have developed a comprehensive plan for growth, with the support of the people, and we will ensure that we deliver on our promises,” he added.According to the President, the country faces multiple challenges, including overwhelming debt and mismanagement of resources.
For example, he noted that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) owed $68 billion, while COCOBOD faced over $32.5 billion in liabilities.”I remain committed to leading this government and getting things back on track, giving Ghanaians the growth they deserve,” he declared. He urged Ghanaians and business owners to trust his administration to turn things around for the better.
“I look forward to a positive economic outlook, with policies such as the 24 Economy, which will ensure prosperity for all,” he added.
The National Economic Dialogue, he said, would help address the challenges with support from various stakeholders.
