A shocking revelation has emerged regarding a alleged port fraud scheme involving the procurement of what is believed to be ECG meters. According to a circulating social media post, Energy Minister Abu Jimapor exposed a fraudulent practice where importers, after receiving payment from ECG, deliberately allow the goods to be held up at the port due to clearing issues. The goods are then auctioned off to the same importer, who subsequently sells them back to ECG, the original purchaser. This alleged scheme has raised concerns about the handling of critical electrical equipment and the potential financial losses incurred by ECG. The Energy Minister’s revelation has sparked calls for a thorough investigation into the matter.
It’s worth noting that this is not the first time ECG has faced scrutiny over its procurement practices. A previous audit by the Auditor-General of Ghana found significant breaches of the Public Procurement Act in the purchase of meters and accessories worth over $145 million.
Meanwhile, Minority leader Afenyo-Markins has corroborated the allegations of the fraudulent scheme involving the procurement breaches said to have occurred, lending credence to reports of the widespread scam.
