In relation to the demise of Adams Mahama, the former Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, has been granted bail after nine years on remand. The Accra High Court set Afoko’s bail at GH₵500,000 with two sureties, one of whom must justify the bond with a landed property.¹As part of the conditions, Afoko must report to the police every two weeks, and the court will verify all documents submitted by the sureties. This marks Afoko’s second attempt at bail, after his initial bail was rescinded in July 2019 by the Court of Appeal.Afoko is accused of conspiring with Asabke Alangdi, who has been convicted, to murder Mahama in May 2015. A split verdict in April 2024 saw Afoko acquitted of murder and conspiracy charges, but Alangdi was unanimously convicted. The two will stand trial together once again.
