During a press conference on her first day of office held at the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council in Accra on Monday February 3rd, 2025, Linda Akweley Ocloo, the newly appointed regional minister, unveiled a the rerun of significant initiative aimed at improving sanitation across the region cum a sanitation award scheme.
With sanitation and security being her major priority for the next 4 years, she announced the re-introduction of a Regional Sanitation Day to be observed on the last Friday of every month. This initiative aims to mobilize communities to engage in clean-up activities and raise awareness about the importance of sanitation and hygiene.
“The re-introduction of the Regional Sanitation day and the Cleanest City Award will promote a competitive and a more responsible way of ” she stated.
All residents are encouraged to participate in various activities planned throughout the day. Local government agencies and community organizations are expected to play a pivotal role in to facilitate widespread participation.
The minister’s announcement marks a proactive step toward addressing ongoing sanitation challenges in the Greater Accra region and illustrates her commitment to community engagement and environmental sustainability.
