The Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has expressed profound gratitude to Ghanaians for their prayers and support during her recent medical treatment in the United Kingdom.
Speaking upon her arrival last Friday, she said, “I am very happy to be back. There’s so much we need to do, and I believe that with our collective effort, we can achieve even more for our country.”
The Vice President was warmly received at the airport by President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama, along with Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, ministers of state, and senior government officials.
“I want to thank all Ghanaians for your prayers and goodwill messages. I can’t thank you enough. I am deeply grateful,” she said.
She also expressed appreciation to the medical team that oversaw her care, crediting them for their timely and effective decisions. “I want to thank the medical staff for seeing the right thing and making the right proposals. And to my boss, President Mahama — that day, I don’t know where you appeared from, but you came and quickly set everything in motion. Thank you.”
In addition to acknowledging the support of family, friends, and the wider public, the Vice President singled out businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama for his exceptional support.
“He went above and beyond to ensure I had everything I needed. He visited me in the hospital, sat with me, and his presence alone was healing. I’m truly grateful,” she said.
Vice President Opoku-Agyemang was flown to the UK on March 31 after a sudden illness, having initially received treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre. News of her condition prompted an outpouring of goodwill and prayers from across the country.
Providing an update on national affairs during her absence, President Mahama assured her that the administration remained on course.
“We held the 120-day social contract update. Thanks to the groundwork you laid before your departure, we were able to present a significant portion of our promises to the people of Ghana. You were dearly missed,” he said.
“Ghana is safe, things are on track, and you’ve returned at the perfect time to continue the great work you started.”
The Vice President’s return has sparked widespread congratulatory messages from across the political divide, including from former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“A warm welcome back home to Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang,” Dr. Bawumia posted on Facebook. “Samira and I thank God for your speedy recovery and wish you all the best as you resume work.”
