Western Region Gets New Council of State Representative

Maxwell Boakye, a 32-year-old entrepreneur, has been elected as the Western Region’s representative on the Council of State. Boakye secured 17 votes, defeating eight other candidates in an election supervised by the Electoral Commission and held in Sekondi.

In his acceptance speech, Boakye thanked the delegates for their confidence in him and promised to work diligently with stakeholders to drive development in the region. He also called for support from the chiefs and people of the region.

The election saw nine candidates vying for the advisory position, with Boakye emerging victorious. Akwasi Nsiah-Awuah, his closest challenger, polled 10 votes, while Adjei Clement received one vote. The remaining six candidates failed to secure any votes.

Boakye’s victory means he will serve as the Western Region’s voice on the Council of State, a constitutional body that advises the President on governance, policy direction, and regional development matters. The Council plays a crucial advisory role in national governance, and its members include a former Chief Justice, a former Chief of the Defence Staff, and a former Inspector-General of Police, among others.

As the Western Region’s representative, Boakye will join other members of the Council in advising the President on key issues, including bills passed by Parliament and major appointments.
