Wenchi Methodist Hospital in the Bono Region has announced plans to conduct a mass burial for 28 unclaimed and unidentified bodies that have been in the hospital’s morgue for nearly three years. The prolonged presence of these bodies has caused congestion and hindered the smooth operation of the facility.
A statement signed by the Wenchi Municipal Coordinating Director, Jimah Yakubu, noted that the bodies had been left unclaimed, creating challenges for the morgue. The statement addressed the public, particularly families with missing persons, informing them that the Environmental Health Unit of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly and the hospital management are preparing to bury the 28 bodies, which have remained unidentified.
The statement highlighted that despite several attempts to reach out to the public for identification and collection, no success had been achieved. To address the growing health risks and decongest the overcrowded morgue, the mass burial will take place between Thursday, January 23, 2025, and Friday, January 31, 2025.
The public notice urges concerned families, individuals, or groups to urgently contact the hospital for identification and collection of their loved ones’ bodies before the deadline. The hospital and assembly are requesting the public’s cooperation to facilitate the identification process, which would not only ease the burden on the morgue but also ensure a dignified burial for the deceased.
