The Vice President of Ghana, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, is in Brussels, Belgium, leading a government delegation to participate in the Global Gateway Forum, one of the European Union’s flagship international events.
The Forum, taking place from October 9 to 10, 2025, brings together Heads of State and Government, business leaders, civil society organizations, and key financial institutions to strengthen global partnerships in an increasingly dynamic world.
During the event, the Vice President is expected to engage in a series of high-level meetings and discussions focused on sustainable growth, strategic infrastructure investment, and innovation. These engagements are aimed at advancing Ghana’s development priorities and expanding avenues for international cooperation, particularly in areas such as renewable energy, digital transformation and education.
The Global Gateway Forum serves as a strategic platform for global leaders to deliberate on key issues shaping international development, trade, and cooperation. This year’s discussions will center on enhancing global connectivity and building resilience amid mounting geopolitical and economic challenges.
The Global Gateway is the European Union’s primary strategy for promoting smart, clean, and secure connections with partner regions. Through this initiative, the EU aims to mobilise up to €300 billion to support global infrastructure projects, particularly in energy, transport, digital networks, health, and education.
By investing in these critical sectors, the initiative seeks to foster sustainable growth, enhance digital inclusion, and support education and research, while promoting partnerships grounded in transparency, sustainability, and mutual benefit.
Ghana’s participation highlights the country’s continued commitment to deepening ties with the European Union and other international partners. The Forum provides a vital opportunity for Ghana and other African nations to articulate their development priorities, explore strategic partnerships, and attract responsible investment.
As global leaders convene in Brussels, the Forum will also address pressing global challenges such as climate change, inequality, and economic instability. For developing countries, it represents an opportunity to share perspectives on building a more equitable and inclusive global economy.
Ghana’s engagement aligns with the government’s broader efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations, promote sustainable development, and secure investment that supports national and continental development goals.
