U-20 AFCON: Ofei Calls for Improved Finishing from Black Satellites

Desmond Ofei, head coach of the Black Satellites, has emphasized the need for his team to enhance their finishing skills if they hope to advance from the fiercely competitive Group C at the TotalEnergies U-20 AFCON Egypt 2025.

Following Ghana’s 1-1 draw against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) in their opening group match, Ofei acknowledged that the team fell short in converting key opportunities into goals. “We should have finished our chances,” Ofei remarked during the post-match press conference. “We need to be more clinical in front of goal.”

Ghana initially took the lead but was unable to capitalize on several scoring opportunities, allowing DR Congo to equalize in a closely contested match. Despite the outcome, Ofei expressed optimism about his team’s performance and their potential in the tournament. “The boys fought hard, and I’m proud of their effort. DR Congo were very aggressive and tough, so we anticipated a challenging game,” he noted.

With the other Group C match between Senegal and the Central African Republic also ending in a 1-1 draw, Ofei believes the group remains competitive, but he insists that Ghana must improve their attacking play to have a chance at progression. “This is a strong group, and every point counts,” he emphasized. “But we will keep fighting for qualification. We believe in our chances.”
