A former Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, is scheduled to meet with investigators from the National Investigation Bureau (NIB) today at Parliament for questioning.
Also set to meet the investigators is Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa Central, Mr. Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus. The reasons for his questioning remain unspecified at this time.
The meetings come after the National Intelligence Bureau made a formal request to Parliament for the release of the two MPs for the investigative process. Following this, the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Alban Bagbin, authorized their release for questioning, in accordance with the request.
In a letter issued by the Clerk of Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, Parliament communicated its approval for the investigation. The letter referenced Articles 117 and 118 of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic, emphasizing the existing protocols with security and intelligence agencies, as well as the public interest.
“Please refer to your letter dated March 25, 2025, regarding the request for the release of Mustapha Ussif, MP for Yagaba Kubori, and Kwame Asare Obeng (A-Plus), MP for Gomoa Central,” the letter read.
“The Rt Hon Speaker has directed the Honourable Members to make themselves available for preliminary interaction with your officials in Parliament today, Monday, April 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at the Sir Emmanuel Charles Quist Conference Room, Office of the Speaker.”
The investigation is set to take place within the precincts of Parliament.
