THE U.S. GOVERNMENT GIFTED GHANA ARMED FORCES 14  ARMOURED PERSONNEL CARRIERS

The United States government, represented by Ambassador Virginia Palmer, handed over 14 armoured personnel carriers worth over $6 million to the Ghana Armed Forces on May 8, 2025. The donation aimed  at enhancing Ghana’s border security and peacekeeping capabilities, particularly in the northern border region which faces growing threats due to instability in the Sahel region.

Key Highlights of the Donation:

Armoured Personnel Carriers: 14 APCs were delivered to support Ghana’s security infrastructure.

Comprehensive Training: Over 40 soldiers received training in driving and maintaining the APCs.

-Ceremony: The handover ceremony took place at Burma Camp, coinciding with the celebration of Victory in Europe Day.

U.S. Commitment: Ambassador Palmer reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to supporting Ghana through military partnerships and capacity-building initiatives.

Ghana’s Existing Military Equipment:

Ghana has previously received armored vehicles from Turkey, including the Otokar Cobra 2 4×4 armoured vehicles, which were delivered in 2021. Those vehicles were designed to provide protection against ballistic and mine threats .
