Sudan Condemns President Ruto for Hosting Rebels Seeking Parallel Government

Sudan’s Foreign Ministry has issued a strong rebuke to Kenyan President William Ruto for hosting leaders of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group accused of committing genocide in Sudan. The ministry expressed regret over what it described as Kenya’s failure to uphold its obligations under international law, the United Nations Charter, and the Genocide Convention by allowing the RSF to gather and conduct political activities on Kenyan soil.

In a statement, the Sudanese government condemned the gathering, asserting that it involved individuals responsible for ongoing atrocities against civilians in Sudan. “Hosting RSF leaders and permitting them to engage in open political and propaganda activities while they are perpetrating genocide and massacres against civilians on ethnic grounds is tantamount to encouraging and participating in these heinous acts,” the ministry stated.

The Sudanese government emphasized that the event held in Nairobi would not alter the situation on the ground, citing the determination of the Sudanese Armed Forces and allied groups to reclaim every inch of territory currently under RSF control. The ministry reiterated its commitment to restoring order and stability in Sudan, despite the challenges posed by the RSF.

Furthermore, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry called on the international community to condemn Kenya’s actions, highlighting the need for collective accountability in addressing the ongoing crisis in Sudan. It indicated that Sudan would take necessary steps to rectify the situation and ensure that such gatherings do not occur in the future.

This diplomatic spat underscores the complexities of the regional dynamics surrounding the conflict in Sudan, as the RSF continues to face accusations of human rights violations and ethnic cleansing amid the ongoing civil strife. The Sudanese government’s response reflects its determination to confront both internal and external challenges as it seeks to stabilize the nation.
