Accra, Ghana – Daniel Asiedu, infamously known as Sexy Dondon, burst into tears in court yesterday, expressing frustration over his prolonged trial for the alleged murder of J.B. Danquah Adu, the late Abuakwa North Member of Parliament.Asiedu, who has been embroiled in a nine-year legal battle, claimed the Ghanaian court system is unfair. He vehemently maintained his innocence, prompting the court to intervene and calm him down to proceed with the trial.
The trial, which commenced at the Criminal Court Five division of the High Court, was presided over by Justice Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie. The defence counsel, Sophia Armstrong, announced plans to file a bail application, although the court stated it had not received the application.
The prosecution, represented by Ms Yvonne Yaache-Adomako, indicated their intention to commence the trial, pending the availability of jurors. The court has adjourned the matter until February 25, 2025.Asiedu’s retrial was ordered by the High Court on December 4, 2024, following a 4-3 verdict by a seven-member jury on charges of robbery and murder. The late MP was brutally murdered at his residence in Shiashie, near East Legon in Accra, on February 9, 2016.
