President John Dramani Mahama is set to swear in the newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, today, March 14.
This comes after the unexpected removal of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare from his post, as part of ongoing discussions around security sector reforms under the current administration.
Dr. Dampare’s dismissal has surprised many, particularly given his successful efforts to transform the police service since taking office in 2021.
While no official explanation has been provided for his removal, sources suggest that it may be linked to a broader restructuring effort within the Ghana Police Service.
During his tenure, Dr. Dampare was widely recognized for leading significant reforms, including enhancing community engagement and implementing internal disciplinary measures within the service.
