President Mahama, Akufo-Addo, others lead tributes to Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings

President John Dramani Mahama and his wife, Lordina Mahama, have expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as a woman of exceptional courage and conviction.

In a joint statement shared on the President’s social media pages, the Mahamas paid tribute to her enduring legacy, noting her pioneering role in championing women’s empowerment and social development.

Vice-President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang also paid glowing tribute, describing Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings as “a national treasure and a trailblazer in women’s leadership.”

Former Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia extended condolences to the bereaved family, lauding Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings for her lifelong dedication to improving the lives of women and girls across Ghana.

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo likewise described the late First Lady as “a national icon and trailblazer.” In a social media post on Friday, he said he and his wife, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, were deeply saddened by her passing.

“She was the longest-serving First Lady in our history and a formidable champion of women’s empowerment,” he noted.

Recalling her warmth, humour, and vibrant personality, former President Akufo-Addo described her as “excellent company” and a woman of great affection. He extended heartfelt condolences, on behalf of his family, to the children and loved ones of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.

The Acting Chief Justice, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, also joined in mourning, describing Mrs. Agyeman-Rawlings as “a woman of remarkable vision, courage, and conviction.”

He noted that throughout her public life, she championed the causes of women and children, tirelessly advocating for gender equality and social justice.

“The Judiciary joins the family of the late President Jerry John Rawlings, their children, and all Ghanaians in mourning this painful loss. May God grant comfort to the bereaved family and eternal rest to her gentle soul,” he said.
