OTWEBEDIADUA DEFAMATION CASE: COURT ORDERS GHC3,000 COST AGAINST DEFENDANTS IN APEDWA CHIEFS’ DEFAMATION CASE

A court has ordered Gertrude Odoteye and her legal team to pay GHC3,000 in costs as the GHC900,000 defamation lawsuit filed by the Kontihene of Apedwa and Odehyie Ansah Akomeah (Nkosuohene) continues to progress. The financial penalty was issued after the defendants appeared in court with counsel but failed to provide a formal response to the allegations of “vicious and unfounded” social media incitement. Kontihene demands GHC400, 000 while Nana Ansah Akomeah demands GHC500,000

The legal battle stems from viral posts allegedly authored by Ms. Getrude Odoteye, which accused the traditional leaders of masterminding attacks against Gadangme residents on Akyem lands. Despite the wide circulation of these claims across social platforms, representatives for the chiefs maintain that the accusations are entirely fabricated and have placed the personal safety of the traditional authorities at risk.

During the most recent hearing, Odehyie Ansah Akomeah (Nana Akomeah) petitioned the court to proceed with the matter, rejecting any delays in the “coordinated character assassination” case. While the defense appeared with legal representation, they have yet to substantiate the claims of violence with evidence.
The court’s decision to slap the defendants with the GHC3,000 cost marks a significant step as the case remains in progress. The plaintiffs continue to seek GHC900,000 in damages to repair the injury caused to their reputations and the sanctity of their offices.
