The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has announced significant progress on the Olympafrica project at Amasaman, with the construction of a basketball/volleyball court and a tennis court currently underway. According to the Chairman of the Olympafrica Project Sub-Committee, Isaac Aboagye Duah, the project has reached 40% completion, with the two courts being constructed simultaneously.The GOC acquired full ownership of the 16.5-acre land at Amasaman in 2022, and received $100,000 from the IOC, ANOCA, and the Olympafrica Foundation to kick-start the project. The total cost for the sports hall and tennis courts is estimated at $160,799.47, with the Olympafrica Foundation approving the quotations and transferring the funds .The project’s first phase includes the construction of a basketball/volleyball court, a tennis court, a standard football field with running tracks, and a sports hall. The CEO of the Olympafrica Foundation, Mr. Alassane Therno Diack, paid a working visit to Ghana in 2022 to finalize the project plan .The GOC has expressed gratitude to the President of the GOC, the Executive Board, and colleagues for their efforts in making the project a reality. The committee has assured that it will deliver the task assigned to them, despite facing some challenges .In a related development, the GOC President, Ben Nunoo Mensah, has announced that the first phase of the Olympafrica project has been completed as of January 2025, featuring a basketball/volleyball court, a tennis court, and a standard football field with running tracks .
