News Ghana has issued a formal retraction and apology for a misleading report targeting Justina Nelson, the acting CEO of the Minerals Income & Investment Fund (MIIF).
The report, which contained unsubstantiated allegations against MIFF and Nelson, has been acknowledged as “inaccurate and misleading”.
The online portal expressed deep regret for any distress or reputational harm caused to Nelson, stating that their reporting did not fully reflect the facts and may have unfairly misrepresented her actions and intentions.
The retraction comes after Nelson faced a series of fabricated and politically motivated attacks in various Ghanaian media outlets. The reports sought to smear Nelson with the sins of the past administration, despite her having only been in office for a month.News Ghana’s apology is a welcome move, and many are calling for other outlets that ran the misleading report to follow suit and retract their stories.
