NASFAAG Empowers 20 Fitness Instructors to Promote a Healthier Ghana

By Kwame Larweh

The National Sports For All Association of Ghana (NASFAAG), in partnership with the National Sports College, has equipped 20 fitness instructors with the skills to foster healthier lifestyles across the country. The intensive 8-day training, held from April 6 to 14, 2025, at the Winneba Sports College, graduated both basic and advanced instructors ready to make a difference.
The program, blending theory, practical sessions, examinations, and assessments, culminated in certificates for all participants. Advanced instructors, including Amos Sechim, Joseph Mensah, Sally Elsis Ashun, and Hans Sergio Agossou, also received 2-year certification ID cards, renewable upon meeting specific requirements, such as community impact and gym engagement.
Mr. Bawah Fuseini, Director of the National Sports College, representing the Minister of Sports and Recreation, urged the graduates to share their knowledge. “It’s not just about learning here and leaving,” he said. “It’s about impacting others. I know people who’ve built successful careers as fitness instructors. Those in the basic course should aim for the advanced, and those in the advanced should keep pushing forward.”
Among the basic course graduates were Nazir Mohammed Zakari, Mary Enyoam Abotsiviah, Agati Emmanuel, Semordzi Gifty, Ivy Obroni, and Kwawakumey Prince. They expressed enthusiasm about applying their new skills to promote fitness in their communities.
The advanced cohort, which also included Emmanuel Eyison, Sylvester Sekyim, Dorminic Buabeng, and Danso Samuel, was reminded by NASFAAG President Nana Adu Mankata II to uphold the integrity of their certification. “This ID card is for fitness purposes only,” he stressed. “Within two years, we’ll review your impact—how many people you’ve brought to gyms or helped lead healthier lives.”
Mr. Shaaban Mohammed, General Secretary of the Ghana Cycling Federation, highlighted the broader benefits of fitness. “Sharing your knowledge strengthens you and your country,” he said. “A physically strong population drives national growth.”
Course Director Professor Emmanuel Sarpong emphasized that fitness extends beyond exercise to holistic wellbeing. “You’ve learned to measure fitness components, conduct assessments, and prescribe exercises safely,” he told participants, including Quasison Siisi Anim, Yankson Marigold, Bernard Afriyie, Awuni Juliana, Priscilla Bernard, and Cathline Annan. “You’re now ambassadors of wellness, equipped to inspire healthier, happier lives.”
The graduates left Winneba with a renewed commitment to transforming Ghana’s fitness landscape, one community at a time.
