Manager of George “Stopper” Mensah Laments Lack of Worthy Opponents

The manager of promising Ghanaian welterweight boxer George “Stopper” Mensah, Samuel Agyei Darkwah, has expressed frustration over the lack of worthy opponents for his charge in the country. In an exclusive interview with the Graphic Sports, Darkwah stated that Mensah, a world title hopeful, is struggling to find suitable opponents in Ghana, which is affecting his career progression.

Darkwah has called on the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) to intervene and establish a system where boxers are categorized and matched against each other at specific times. He warned that refusal to comply with this system could result in boxers being banned.

“Stopper is Ghana’s best hope of winning a world title again, but I don’t understand why other boxers are avoiding him,” Darkwah said. “If they are confident in their abilities, they should be willing to fight him.

“Darkwah also advocated for a clause among professional boxers in Ghana, requiring them to fight the best opponents to bring out the best in each other and ultimately represent the country at the international level.

Furthermore, he urged the GBA to make the sport more attractive to corporate sponsors and stakeholders, and to appoint the best executives to manage the sport.
