Kwabena Adu-Boahene Remanded in Custody for Seven Days by Accra High Court

Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, has been ordered to remain in custody for seven days by the Accra High Court. This decision allows the Attorney General’s office additional time to finalize witness statements related to the ongoing case against him.

The court has scheduled Adu-Boahene’s next appearance for May 13, 2025, where further proceedings will be discussed. During the hearing, Adu-Boahene’s lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, requested that the court maintain the existing bail conditions for all defendants involved. However, the Attorney General opposed this request specifically for Adu-Boahene, citing concerns over his alleged interference with potential witnesses as justification for the remand.

After considering arguments from both sides, the judge ruled in favor of the remand, which will exclude weekends from the custody period, despite the defense’s plea to include them.

Adu-Boahene faces serious charges, including 11 counts of theft. He is accused of transferring approximately GH¢49 million (around $7 million) from the bureau’s account to his personal account, among other allegations.

The case, filed at the High Court in Accra, also involves three co-defendants: Adu-Boahene’s wife, Angela Adjei Boateng; his company, Advantage Solutions Limited; and banker Mildred Donkor. The charges against them include stealing, conspiracy to steal, and defrauding by false pretenses, all in violation of various sections of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960. Additional allegations include willfully causing financial loss to the state and abusing public office for personal gain.
