The Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has instituted a temporary suspension of activities at the Nana Koromansah II Park while it conducts an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of a football fan during the match between Nsoatreman F.C. and Asante Kotoko on Sunday.
The GFA has invoked Article 14(2) of the Premier League Regulations, primarily to “ensure the safety of all stakeholders during the ongoing investigations.”
This announcement, made on Sunday night, follows the unfortunate passing of a football fan, Francis Frimpong, amid violent confrontations that erupted during the Premier League match.
Furthermore, the GFA has assigned the Security Committee, under the leadership of DCOP Lydia Donkor, along with the FA Prosecutors, to “immediately proceed to the site and collect all pertinent evidence, including match reports and relevant documentation, for submission to the FA’s Disciplinary Committee for the resolution of all sporting issues.”
In addition, the GFA has officially requested the Ghana Police Service to initiate a comprehensive investigation into the incident and ensure that all offenders are brought to justice.
The GFA has expressed its expectation that law enforcement agencies will utilize all necessary resources to ensure that those accountable for these egregious acts are identified, apprehended, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
