KNUST Student’s Death: Suspect Remanded in Police Custody

A suspect arrested in connection with the death of a final-year student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been remanded in police custody.

Daniel Tuffuor, the suspect, appeared before the Prempeh Assembly Hall District Court, where his plea was not taken. The prosecutor requested to keep him in custody for two weeks to conclude the investigation, which the judge granted.

Tuffuor has been charged with causing harm and conspiracy to commit murder. He was arrested after campus CCTV footage captured him engaging in a violent confrontation with the deceased, Joana Deladem Yabani.

According to reports, Yabani fell to the ground during the altercation, and after realizing she was unresponsive, Tuffuor allegedly relocated her body near the University’s Disability and Rehabilitation Centre, where she was later found.

The Ghana Police Service arrested Tuffuor after a detailed crime scene investigation revealed signs of violence on Yabani’s body. The Inspector-General of Police has met with Yabani’s family to offer condolences and assure them of a thorough investigation.

The university community has been engaged to discuss strengthening campus security measures to ensure student safety. The suspect is expected to reappear in court on March 14.
