His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the GA Mantse, revealed on May 7, 2025, his plans to allocate office space within his palace for the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) this year. This announcement came during a strategic meeting with GTA officials, including the newly appointed CEO, Maame Efua Houadjeto, focused on collaboration for the upcoming Homowo festival.
King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II articulated his aspirations for the partnership, stating, “We want to raise this platform with you and collaborate to see how best we can even eradicate hunger within Ghana.” His remarks underscored a commitment to not only celebrate cultural heritage but also address pressing social issues through joint efforts.
In addition to the festival preparations, the GA Mantse emphasized the untapped potential for tourism growth in Accra. He noted that numerous sites within the city boast significant tourism potential and could yield substantial revenue if properly refurbished. By establishing an office for the GTA in the palace, he aims to facilitate coordinated efforts to enhance these attractions.
Responding to the King’s initiative, Nana Efua expressed enthusiasm, highlighting that the GTA has already begun investing in various tourist attractions across Greater Accra. “Some of the tourist sites in Greater Accra have already received funding from the GTA. For instance, we invested in the lighthouse and the tourism center there. A few years ago, we refurbished it, but since the gentleman who managed the site passed away, it hasn’t been well maintained. We plan to return and rehabilitate the tourism center,” she said.
This partnership marks a significant step towards revitalizing tourism in the region and underscores the importance of collaboration between traditional leadership and governmental agencies.
