Govt,MTN Group forge new partnership at Mobile World Congress 2025

In a significant step toward advancing Ghana’s digital landscape, a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation led by Mr Sam George,met with MTN Group Chief Executive Officer(CEO) Ralph Mupita and Group SVP, Eben Asante at the sidelines of Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona.

The meeting focused on strengthening the collaboration between the Ministry and MTN, with a special emphasis on enhancing the quality of service and improving the overall customer experience for MTN’s Ghana operations.

A major outcome of the discussions was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry and MTN Ghana for the implementation of the John Dramani Mahama flagship One Million Coders Programme (OMCP). This ambitious initiative aims to equip one million Ghanaians with essential digital skills, and it is a key part of Ghana’s strategy to boost its workforce’s readiness for the digital economy.

The OMCP, which is a collaborative effort between the government and private sector players like MTN, would officially be launched in the coming days by President John Mahama in line with his 120-day social contract to improve the nation’s digital infrastructure and youth employment prospects.

“Today’s collaboration with MTN is a vital step towards empowering the Ghanaian people with the skills needed to thrive in the modern digital world,”Mr Sam George stated.

This partnership he said, marks a new chapter in Ghana’s journey toward becoming a leading digital hub in Africa.He added that, the event underscored Ghana’s commitment to fostering public-private partnerships and creating sustainable opportunities for its citizens in the ever-evolving digital space.

He was optimistic that, the signing of the MoU was a significant milestone for both the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation and MTN, with the future of the One Million Coders Programme set to unlock numerous opportunities for Ghanaians in the rapidly advancing global digital economy.

He said,the collaboration would shape the future of Ghana’s digital workforce.
