The Ghana National Council for Private Schools (GNACOPS) has announced that the government will allocate a provisional tuition fee of GHS 1,500 per term for each student enrolled in a private Senior High School (SHS) as part of the pilot phase of the Free SHS initiative.
During an appearance on TV3’s Hot Issues on Sunday, June 1, GNACOPS Executive Director Enoch Nana Gyetuah disclosed that the implementation of this initiative is set to commence in the 2025/2026 academic year at selected private institutions.
“The government is going to provide us with a provisional amount of GHS 1,500 for tuition on a termly basis,” he stated.
Gyetuah further indicated that the participating private schools have already communicated their available spaces to the Ministry of Education, which will be taken into account during the placement of candidates from the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
“The private schools have already declared their vacancies for the Free SHS programme, and this information has been forwarded to the Ministry of Education,” Gyetuah clarified.
He assured that the placement of students will be conducted in a manner that aligns with the capacity of each school to prevent overcrowding.
“The placement will be executed in such a way that the number of students corresponds with the capacity of the private schools,” he emphasised.
