In a groundbreaking move for martial arts in Ghana, Global ICT managed services giant GIT has signed a decade-long partnership with the Ghana Karate-Do Federation, aiming to revolutionize Karate-Do through technology, sponsorship, and strategic development. The deal, formalized last Thursday in Accra, promises to elevate the sport at both grassroots and elite levels while boosting its national and global profile.
Silas Peprah, CEO of GIT Ghana, hailed the collaboration as a fusion of innovation and tradition. “Our mission is to bridge technological advancements with practical solutions,” Peprah said. “This partnership will modernize Karate-Do while preserving its rich heritage, driving athlete performance, and enhancing spectator engagement.”
The ambitious agreement outlines key objectives: integrating digital tools for training, analytics, and performance tracking; promoting Karate-Do globally through digital platforms and branding; and supporting athletes with funding, scholarships, and career programs. GIT also plans to transform tournaments with live streaming, AI-powered judging, and enhanced digital engagement, alongside community initiatives to make the sport more accessible, especially for youth.
Nathaniel Johnson, President of the Ghana Karate-Do Federation, expressed optimism about the deal’s impact. “Karate-Do is becoming a vital sport in Ghana, and with GIT’s technology, it can grow into a national pastime,” he said. Johnson urged karatekas to embrace the new systems, adding, “This partnership will create jobs for the youth and generate revenue for the government, making Karate-Do a cornerstone of opportunity.”
By 2035, the collaboration aims to cement Karate-Do’s global presence, with Ghana poised to lead the charge. For a sport steeped in tradition, this tech-driven leap could mark the beginning of a new era.
