Sports Minister, Kofi Adams, has pledged sweeping refurbishments of Ghana’s aging stadiums, while President John Dramani Mahama readies plans to deliver seven new ones next year, in what government calls a major overhaul of the nation’s sporting infrastructure.
Aside from that Ghana’s National Sports Authority (NSA) is set to acquire pitch covers for all major stadia in a bid to end recurring maintenance problems that have left several venues unfit to host matches.
Minister Kofi Adams emphasized that the government will go beyond superficial repairs, focusing on genuine upgrades to ensure stadiums meet international standards. The government aims to ensure that existing facilities are properly maintained, addressing concerns about the sustainability of funding for large-scale projects.
This initiative aims to overhaul Ghana’s sporting infrastructure, addressing the current deplorable state of many stadiums and to regain Ghana’s status as a hub for sports in Africa.
Ghanaians are expecting that the refurbishment of Accra Sports Stadium and Baba Yara Sports Stadium will include roofing them complete like the Tamale Sports stadium and that of Essipong.
