Ghana is set to receive 500 new buses by the end of 2025. Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) will receive 350 Toyota Hiace minibuses, 100 Toyota Coaster buses, and 50 cargo trucks from the end of 2025, as stated by the Minister for Transport, Mr. Joseph Bukari-Nikpe. At the Government Accountability Series press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the minister noted that MMTL was facing challenges and needed immediate support to regain efficiency. He emphasized that the new buses were part of the government’s strategy to revitalize the operations of both MMTL and STC. The phased delivery of the vehicles, he noted, would start at the end of this year and continue into 2026 to expand services across the regions. According to the minister, the upgraded fleet and restructuring plans aimed to enhance passenger services, strengthen financial performance, and reconnect the two companies with their mission of providing affordable and reliable mass transport for Ghanaians.
