Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has underscored the imperative for Africa to harness the opportunities presented by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, cautioning that failure to do so could exacerbate the continent’s economic marginalization.
Addressing an audience at Harvard University, Dr. Bawumia observed that Africa’s absence from the first three industrial revolutions has resulted in significant economic disparities. He emphasized that the Fourth Industrial Revolution, characterized by the convergence of digital technologies, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT), offers a unique chance for Africa to bridge the economic divide.
Dr. Bawumia urged policymakers to adopt a forward-thinking approach and collaborate to integrate technology into their economies. He stressed that Africa’s digital transformation is crucial for unlocking economic potential, creating jobs, and empowering the continent’s youth.
“The digital economy holds the key to unlocking Africa’s vast potential and creating jobs for the youth,” Dr. Bawumia stated. He cited Ghana’s digital journey as a paradigm for leveraging technology to drive economic transformation.
Dr. Bawumia concluded by advocating for a collaborative effort among governments, businesses, educators, and innovators to build a future where every African can thrive and contribute to a brighter tomorrow.
