The Electoral Commission (EC) is poised to announce the final results of the Ablekuma North Constituency elections but is currently holding off until it secures adequate support from the Ghana Police Service.
In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen program, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, the Director of Electoral Services and Training at the EC, stated that while the votes have been counted, the collation process remains incomplete. “We’ve been in touch with the IGP and the police; the only issue now is security,” he explained.
Dr. Quaicoe also called on political parties to be ready to accept the final results once they are declared. The announcement has been postponed due to unresolved issues with three polling stations out of a total of 281, leading to intense disputes between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), both of which are asserting claims of victory.
Tensions escalated on January 8, 2025, when the Returning Officer stepped down amid disagreements over the pink sheets. The EC has since paused the process seven times due to ongoing clashes between supporters of the rival parties.
In the meantime, both the NDC and NPP have put up billboards expressing gratitude to voters, even in the absence of official election results.
