In a candid address reported by CitiNews, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate for the upcoming 2024 elections and former Vice President, has openly acknowledged the shortcomings of the NPP government. He has issued an apology to the Ghanaian populace and is appealing for their renewed trust as the nation approaches the general elections.
Speaking at a recent gathering in London, Dr. Bawumia recognised that, despite the NPP’s significant achievements in governance, the party has also faced challenges and made mistakes. He expressed remorse for the administration’s shortcomings and, on behalf of himself and the party, offered a sincere apology to the people of Ghana for their failures.
He remarked, “The NPP did a lot of work, there’s no doubt about that, but we did not get everything right. We got quite a few things wrong, and I think that, on my own behalf, on behalf of the party and the government, I apologise to all of you for us not getting the things right that we should have gotten.”
Dr. Bawumia went on to stress that the party has taken time to reflect on its previous actions and is committed to making improvements if they are granted another opportunity in office. He expressed optimism that the lessons learned from their past experiences will steer them towards more effective governance in the future.
His statements come in light of the NPP’s disappointing performance in the recent 2024 elections, prompting a call for introspection and renewal.
