Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff, has summoned Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, following the emergence of a video that shows him transferring an undisclosed sum of money, allegedly in US dollars, to the controversial evangelist Patricia Oduro Koranteng, commonly known as Nana Agradaa.
Sources from the Jubilee House have confirmed that Gyamfi has been asked to appear before the Chief of Staff to clarify the details surrounding this transaction. The footage, which appears to capture a personal exchange between the public official and the contentious religious figure, has sparked considerable public outcry and raised serious ethical questions.
The reasons behind the cash transfer remain ambiguous, but the sight of a senior government official handing over money to Nana Agradaa has led to rampant speculation and significant public disapproval. Critics argue that this incident could potentially compromise the integrity of President John Dramani Mahama’s recently introduced Code of Conduct for Public Officials, which emphasises the importance of integrity, accountability, and transparency in public service as part of broader anti-corruption initiatives.
In light of the backlash, Sammy Gyamfi issued an apology on Sunday, May 11, describing the act as a private gesture of goodwill that unfortunately became public knowledge. Nevertheless, sources suggest that the Chief of Staff is treating the situation with the utmost seriousness, acknowledging the considerable political sensitivity and potential reputational harm associated with the incident.
