Charity Begins at Home, But Not for Kennedy Agyapong

After 24 years in Parliament, Assin Central remains Kennedy Agyapong’s biggest unfinished business and Ghana must take note before trusting him with a nation*.

Charity, they say, begins at home. But after twenty-four long years as Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has failed to prove that maxim true. If he could not transform a small constituency into a model of unity and development, what moral or political right does he have to promise transformation for an entire nation?

Assin Central remains a portrait of neglect a constituency rich in rhetoric but poor in progress. The man who boasts of wealth and power has left his own backyard in darkness, because of the indifferent manner in which he insulted and disparage party’s members of his small constituency. Such conduct raises serious questions about his ability to work in unity with the broader interests of the party. How then can he light the path for Ghana?

This clearly demonstrate that Kennedy Agyapong’s conduct reflects a troubling disregard for members of his own party. While he found it necessary to apologize to President John Dramani Mahama, he remains unrepentant about the insults and abuse he directed at the New Patriotic Party. How can a man so dismissive of his own political family claim to advance the collective interests of the party he so often undermines?

Kennedy Agyapong is kind only where it pays, and cruel where it doesn’t. His generosity is transactional; his compassion, conditional. He helps where he benefits, and hinders where he cannot. This is not kindness, it is self-interest dressed in benevolence.

A politician who claims to be guided by Christian values should have the law of kindness on his tongue. Instead, Kennedy’s tongue has too often been a weapon, sharp, reckless, and divisive. He used his people, drained their faith, and abandoned them the moment their usefulness expired.

A man who could not brighten his own corner cannot brighten Ghana. The evidence from Assin Central is not a campaign record, it is a warning label.

Ghana deserves better than a man who confuses arrogance for confidence and insult for boldness. We need thinkers, not barkers; builders, not destroyers. Delegates of the New Patriotic Party must remember: leadership is not about loudness, it is about legacy. If charity truly begins at home, then Kennedy Agyapong’s home tells us all we need to know and all we need to reject.
