German rider Bastien Deiti (Team Obroni) stormed to overall victory in the 10th edition of the Tour Du Ghana on Friday, sealing the title with a commanding performance in the final 112 km stage that concluded at the bustling streets of Ollebu in Ablekuma, Greater Accra Region.
The 27-year-old Deiti, who had seized the yellow jersey after a dramatic breakaway on the punishing Akwapim mountains in stage 5, never looked back. He crossed the line in the peloton during the flat and fast final stage, finishing with a cumulative time of 36 hours, 14 minutes and 28 seconds over the eight-day, 985 km race that started in Tamale and traversed the Northern, Ashanti, Eastern and Greater Accra regions.
Behind Deiti, Dutch veteran Rick Van der Meer (Team Netherlands) took second overall at 2 minutes and 47 seconds back, while young Eritrean star Natnael Tesfatsion (Team Africa United) rounded out the podium in third, 4 minutes and 11 seconds off the winner’s pace.
In the stage itself, won in a bunch sprint by British sprinter Ethan Sawyer in a time of 2 hours 38 minutes, Deiti safely protected his lead as his powerful Belgian squad controlled the front of the pack.

Deiti, who also claimed the polka-dot climber’s jersey, becomes only the second European rider to win the Tour Du Ghana after Frenchman Paul Dupont triumphed in the inaugural 2015 edition.
Speaking at the colourful closing ceremony held at the Ablekuma Community Park, an emotional Deiti paid tribute to his teammates and the Ghanaian public.
“This is the toughest race I have ever done. The heat, the roads, the passion of the people along the route – Ghana, you have a very special race. I am honoured to have my name on this trophy,” he said.
Youth, Sports and Recreation Minister Hon. Kofi Adams, who presented the trophies, praised the growth of the event and pledged increased government support.
“The Tour Du Ghana has put our country on the global cycling map. We will continue to invest in infrastructure and youth programmes so that disciplines like cycling receive the same attention as football,” Minister Adams declared, announcing that the 2026 edition will be upgraded to UCI 2.2 status.
Organisers confirmed that more than 400,000 spectators lined the routes across the eight stages, with the mountainous stage to Aburi drawing the largest roadside crowds in the race’s history.
As the sun set over Ablekuma, Bastien Deiti lifted the golden trophy high, cementing his place in the growing legacy of one of Africa’s premier cycling events.
