Anti-Galamsey protesters project environmental devastation onto Jubilee House

The Generational Rights Protection Society has intensified its campaign against illegal mining, commonly known as Galamsey by projecting harrowing footage of environmental destruction onto a large screen positioned directly in front of Ghana’s Jubilee House.

Although the group staged a high-profile demonstration on Monday, it has yet to formally present its petition to the presidency.

As part of the day’s activities, protesters visited the Ghana Police Service headquarters, where Co-Convenor Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah led a traditional prayer for the police force.

He emphasised the need for spiritual support to empower security agencies in the fight against illegal mining.

“We need to pray for our police to have the strength and wisdom to help end this galamsey menace,” Afrifa Mensah stated.

The group announced that the protest will continue over the next two days. On the second day, demonstrators will gather at the Obra Spot in Accra.

The final day will culminate in the official presentation of their petition to the presidency, which outlines specific demands for a clear and actionable plan to combat illegal mining.

The Generational Rights Protection Society reaffirmed its commitment to holding national leaders accountable for protecting the environment and securing a sustainable future for the next generation.
